Background
Tilman Reinelt received a Diploma in Psychology (equivalent to an M.Sc.) from the University of Hamburg, Germany. During his doctoral studies, he worked at the Leibniz Institute for Research and Information in Education (DIPF) and received his Dr. rer nat. from the University of Tübingen. Before joining the NGN Research Center, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Clinical Psychology and Rehabilitation at the University of Bremen.
Main areas of research
In his research, Tilman Reinelt investigates the cognitive and social-emotional development of children and adolescents, particularly those at risk of health problems, reduced well-being, poor school performance or limited social participation. These risks include premature birth or low birth weight, social disadvantage in early childhood, neurodevelopmental disorders and chronic illnesses (e.g. attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, obesity) as well as experiences of flight. He is interested in the factors that contribute to resilient development. One focus here is on the role of self-regulation processes (e.g. reward deferral, executive functions, emotion regulation) and the home learning environment.
